In the early months of 1910, brothers Enoch and William Padgett constructed a rock wall and dam on Pettit Creek to irrigate their lower planting fields (along what is now Upper Salem Church Road).

Unfortunately, Enoch got sick from his work in the icy waters of Pettit Creek wall and died at the age of 34. Enoch was a much-loved brother to his younger siblings. His brother William never got over his loss.

Poor guy.
