These mountains are the same
as when the Cherokee lived on the plain,
as when the Creek hunted before,
and when the sabertooth left the moor.
Their elevation served as a mark,
from the time they left the oceans dark,
from when the plates were cast asunder
and their echoes boomed like thunder.
As vaulted sentinels, they stand
casting shadows upon the land,
casting doubts upon the weak
and o’er those below the peak.
These mountains are the same
as when God first spoke their name,
as when Adam left the Garden,
and toiled forever without pardon.
